Apple went all out on innovation in 2017 and presented the world with the full screen 5.8″ corner to corner screen with curved edges. iPhone X vs. XR, iPhone X blows the XR straight out of the park.

iPhone x came with serious upgrades, and finally, Apple made a futuristic leap making an iPhone that looked a modern phone. Gone are the bezels, and there is no place for the home button on the new iPhone. Apple launched iPhone X without touch ID while marketing face ID more secure and futuristic.

iPhone X vs. iPhone XR is only comparable in screen real estate. iPhone XR offers a 6.1″ diagonal screen and is larger than the smaller 5.8inch bezel lees iPhone X. XR however, does come with some of the iPhone’s latest innovations like Face ID and all-screen curved edged bezel-less display.

When you compare performance metrics of iPhone X vs. iPhone XR, the iPhone ten excels in every aspect. But iPhone XR is the budget version, or you can say a doppelganger of iPhone X with similarities outside and differences inside.

Apple launched its successors to X in 2018 as iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Both the devices added a bit more to the already superb iPhone X, upgrading the iOS 13.

iPhone X offered a dual-camera system with two sensors mounted at the top right corner at the rear of the phone. At the same time, iPhone XR has a single 12 MP shooter on the back with no camera bump.

With both iPhone X and iPhone XR, the absence of the home button leaves you with a question, how to take a screenshot? The answer is by holding power and volume up button simultaneously. Display

iPhone X has a 5.8” OLED display, and Apple calls it a Super Retina HD display panel with an all-screen design. The screen is curved at the edges with a notch up at the top center of the display panel. Notch houses the True depth camera, an IR blaster, and other sensors. The screen has a 2436 x 1125 resolution with a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. It’s a True Tone, Wide Color display with 625 nits of brightness.

On the other hand, the XR model comes with a Liquid Retina display, which is an LCD panel with a resolution of 1792 x 828 and 326 pixels per inch pixel density. The screen, however, is Wide Color and True Tone display with a low 1400:1 contrast ratio and 625nits of brightness.

iPhone X has a 3D touch, whereas iPhone XR lacks this luxury and got a haptic touch. Also, there is no HDR display in XR.

Dimensions and Weight

iPhone XR is a bit heavier than the iPhone X, with the official weights standing at 194 grams for iPhone XR and 174 grams for iPhone X.

iPhone X is 2.79 x 2.79 x 0.30 inches, whereas iPhone XR is slightly larger with official dimensions at 5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 inches.

Chipset/CPU

The processing power of the iPhone X is boosted with Apple’s A11 chipset with a neural engine, whereas the iPhone XR has a more modern chip i.e., A12. iPhone X, however, is faster and have a better-optimized chipset as compared to iPhone XR

Camera setup

Camera sensors on iPhone X are miles ahead as that of the iPhone XR. There are two sensors, 12 MP each on the iPhone X, one wide-angle f1.8, and the second telephoto f2.4 with optical image stabilization support for both cameras. 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom.

The cameras are assisted with True Tone slow sync dual flash that lets you tale goof photos in a low light environment. Portrait mode with five portrait lighting effects and auto HDR is also a vital feature of iPhone X.

The selfie cam is a 7MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture with portrait mode, and the camera supports augmented reality apps like Animoji and Memoji.

iPhone XR has a single 12MP lens with f/1.8 aperture. It comes with optical image stabilization, up to 5x digital zoom, and portrait mode with three portrait lighting effects. It also has a smart HDR for photos.

The selfie cam is the same 7MP True depth camera on X with six portrait lighting effects and Smart HDR for photos. XR beats the iPhone  X as it offers extended dynamic range for vides at 30 fps and cinematic video stabilization that are lacking in iPhone.

Battery

iPhone X has lithium-ion built-in power storage with a total capacity of 2716 mAH, giving you an audio playback of 60 hours. In contrast, iPhone XR offers a slightly better battery life with up to 65 hours of audio playback due to its larger 2942 mAH battery.
