Apple’s success has been tracked for years now and its highly innovative methods have allowed it to gain a strong position in comparison to its rivals. As a further testament to its popularity and technological wizardry, Apple now boasts more than 10 billion app downloads since the inception of its App Store in 2007. While 10 billion apps in two and half years is a worthy achievement, more interestingly it has been revealed that 7 billion of those downloads came from last year alone. With the rocketing sales of iPhones and iPads, the download count will certainly increase in time to come.

The apps store has seen a lot of drama since it came online and many different apps have become a feature of an iPhone/iPad user’s daily routine. Most of the apps are free and others can range from $0.99 to hundreds of dollars. In addition, the iPhone has seen the introduction of many specialized apps for different purposes in diverse areas including the military, health, sports, technology, fashion and humor.

The lucky person who downloaded the 10 billionth app received a $10,000 iTunes gift card. Now it seems that we cannot wait for the 100 billion mark. While the future of the App Store seems stronger, more competition in the industry will mean more innovation and incentives will be necessary to keep up this ferocious pace.
