Kevin Rose, in a blog posting, stated he has received information from a reliable source indicating that Apple will announce iPad 2 with a the most probable date being February 1st. He wrote: ‘I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next 3-4 weeks, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.’
Retina display. Sounds good, but is it too good to be true? In an update to the post, Rose admitted that his post was rushed, because another source indicated that while the display on the second-generation iPad will feature higher resolution than the first model, it will not be a ‘Retina’ display as we have seen on the iPhone 4. The explanation is quite simple – there are some physical limitations to the current set-up. ‘The Retina pixel densities would be extremely difficult to achieve given the horsepower to drive a display in the of 2560 x 1920 pixels as would be required,’ Macrumors noted.
