Shaw Wu, analyst for ‘Kaufman Bros’, claims that Verizon has started negotiations with Apple for rights to the iPhone. Although Wu has a poor track record when it comes to Apple predictions, maybe this is the boost he needs to have a strong voice in the upcoming future. I do not know whether the news is true or not, but it is news is already making waves among iPhone watchers. But do not forget there were similar rumors a few months ago, but they remained just that – rumors.

However, ‘AppleInsider’ reports (based on the Wu research note) that Verizon is rumored to launch the iPhone during early next year. According to the report, Verizon is highly interested in preventing T-Mobile and Sprint (the other two major carriers) from carrying the iPhone.

“We are hearing that Verizon does not want iPhone, the hottest selling smart-phone, available on T-Mobile USA and/or Sprint and may be willing to pay for exclusivity to itself and AT&T,” Wu wrote. “For these reasons, Verizon could be more than willing to give in to Apple’s terms.”

Another important factor, we must consider, is Google’s Android operating system that loses some of its luster at Verizon Wireless because AT&T continues to gain customer share with the iPhone, even though Verizon has been giving a strong promotion to the Android devices.
