Apple’s new ‘Airplay’ service has been long-awaited by many iDevice users, so it was not surprising to see plenty of smiling faces around on Monday when iOS 4.2 was released, finally. But the smiles did not last for very long as the ‘AirPlay’ service was shipped without any API access for third-party applications. Users can only send video from their iOS devices to the Apple TV from Apple-approved applications like ‘Video’ or ‘YouTube’. So there are lots of people asking the same question: “Why should I buy an Apple TV when I do not need one yet? Why should I pull out an extra $100 from my pocket, when I have better things to do, better things on which to spend my hard-earned money, especially as Christmas is near?”

Thanks to those hard-working hackers who managed to figure out a way to share more video through the ‘AirPlay’ connection. Yes, we now have another reason to smile – a jailbreak application called ‘AirVideoEnabler‘ is now available. This application was originally destined to go on sale in the ‘Cydia’ store, until the creator, Zone-MR, decided to make it free instead.

Of course, you need to have a jailbroken device, so if you do not have one yet, it is a good time for you to start to jailbreak it. The only problem is that if you want to stream video to anything, other than an Apple TV, this solution will not be able to help you – but it is a good start though.
