It has been less than 3 years since the iPhone reached the market. Now, as the first quarter results have been revealed, Forbes shows that Motorola has lost its position as the largest United States maker of phones. This title and all that goes with it belongs to Apple. The first quarter of 2010 look like this: Apple sold 8.8 million iPhones, Motorola sold a second place 8.5 million phones.
Although this looks great and Apple has worked hard to reach the title, Forbes suggests with a note in the release, that these are OK sales. Apple should not forget that fours year ago when the Razr was all the rage, Motorola reached the top of the U.S. phone maker spot with an astonishing number of 46.1 million phones sold in the first quarter.
However, if we look at the statement it will immediately show the 2.3 million number of Smartphones sold by Motorola. We must remember that there is a competition between Motorola and Apple on that market. But, as the numbers say, Apple is significantly ahead of Motorola now. This isn’t bad, when we look back in time, less than three years ago and replay Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s words: “There is no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share.”
