First, grab yourself a copy of redsn0w (Mac and Windows) here.
Insert an IPSW in redsn0w (must be the same as the device being jailbreaked). Choose your options. (For iPhone 2G users, here are the bootloaders.)
Turn your device off (either by holding the lock button or holding the lock and the home button together).
Press next, then it will have you press the power button for 3 seconds and with out releasing it, hold the home and power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the power and continue pressing the home. After you see activity on redsn0w you can release the home button.
If you get hanged on redns0w and with it saying “Waiting for reboot”, simply unplug and replug your device in your computer and it should do the trick.

hiya, i have done this all and its done but i dont see any cydia or icy installed on my ipod touch what is this supposed to do exactly sorry for being a newb but ive looked at all avalable guides and they dont explain what to do after it says done…. it just seems to reboot to same screen??

have you made sure that you entered DFU mode. Also f you entered it does the ipod shows a picture of a pineapple and loads or not.

I jailbroken my iphone 3G but the problem is that I can’t receive any text message.
can i jailbreak my iphone while it has the 4.0.2 software and wasnt jailbroken previously? or do i have to downgrade the software first?
I went through the whole process on my iPhone 3GS. I am running 4.2.1 firmware and the entire jailbreak worked and it added cydia, but cydia was a white icon and would not open it just sent me to the home page on my phone. Please help! Is it simply not working with this firmware yet, if so please update! My phone stuck on apple load screen and I had to restore which made me update my firmware and baseband from 3.1.3 to 4.2.1 and I lost my jailbreak. Please help! Need jailbreak advice for new firmware!
