Well, it seems that the cat and mouse games continue. Geohot has released his very own unlock by the name of purplesn0w. Purplesn0w is an unlock program for iPhone 3GS users. Geohot used the same alt+xlog eploit that was found by Oranav as well as it patches three files; CommCenter, lockdownd, and wildcard. This program is in it’s beta version so Geohot is asking for users to install it and see how it works and report any bugs to him. Some bugs already reported are that it can only be used on activated, and not hactivated iPhones. So that means if you never activated your iPhone with and AT&T SIM then hold up. Also it seems that 3G is not currently working as well for some users, but Geohot has already stated that he is working on a fix for both of these.
If you are on a 3Gs activated and have jailbroken with purplera1n then check out Geohot’s blog on how to install purplesn0w and enjoy the “chilling effects.” But, if you’re too lazy to click a link here’s the instructions:
- Be sure to have legit activated 3GS
- Disable 3G if you don’t have it(like T-Mobile).
- Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia
- Install com.geohot.purplesn0w
- Watch for success output in Cydia
- Reboot, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone
P.S. – If you currently have ultrasn0w installed, remove it before using purplesn0w.
