The wait has been long and grueling but it is finally over, we have the full details on the next generation of iPhone, the iPhone 3G S!
The iPhone 3G S blows all the fake images, of possible different designs or matte finishes, out of the water and amazes us all by keeping the form factor exactly the same! Same height, width, and almost the same weight. The new iPhone 3G S weighs only 2 grams more than the original iPhone 3G. But, as anyone knows, 2 grams probably won’t be noticeable by hardly anyone.
Now as far as hardware goes there are so many things that have received an amazing upgrade! The camera has been upgraded from 2 to 3 megapixels and also has an autofocus feature. This will allow you to take clearer pictures than ever before, as well as you can now record and edit video without any hacked features! Apple decided to add a magnetometer as well so that you can use the virtual compass while you are running around geocaching, or just trying to find your way home. The storage capacity is finally getting to reasonable limits for those of us who are music hounds! You can now have an iPhone that supports 32gb of flash memory, which is double the currently available maximum! The last large feature that everyone has been asking for is stereo bluetooth! You can now listen to your iPhone on your radio or headphones that support the stereo bluetooth profile!
Besides these major hardware changes there are also numerous new features, that I am sure you are all aware of, on the new iPhone 3.0 firmware. The new firmware is set to be released on June 17th with the new iPhone being released only 2 days after.
If you are wanting to be one of the first to own an iPhone 3G S you can go to the Apple website and order one now to be delivered on June 19th with free shipping. I also called AT&T business care and asked about wether or not iPhone 3G customers were going to be given the option to upgrade to the iPhone 3G S for the full retail price or the 2 year agreement price as they did before. I was told as of right now they have not been told one way or another but they were very leanient with the 2G to 3G agreements so he would assume it would be the same in this case. So here is hoping we can all get the new iPhone 3G S at a discounted rate, otherwise it will have to wait…
If you try to upgrade on the apple website, you are required to pay the full amount, no discount for current 3g owners. So I guess we wait to see what ATT will do.

You only have to pay full price if your not out of your 2 year contract. Im still using the iphone I bought the day they came out. I ordered my 32gig 3G S off of the apple site earlier and it was the discounted price. And come on guys I was checking your site all day and I had mine ordered hours before yall updated. gotta get on the ball here. lol

Is there any mention of apps being able to run in the background?
Yet again it would appear that we loyal apple customers are to be shafted by Steve and the boys. Sad thing is, I will be buying the 32 gb 3GS when it finally appears here in the UK. Dumb or wot
hopefully the 3.0fw will make our 3G phones work a lot better. any word on a jailbreak for 3.0? I’m gonna test it on my wife’s phone first and then decide if I wanna upgrade.
Why no Front Cam? Apple knows how to make Money, they release step by step, but they have already the Technoligy Today,
I was expecting alot more from the new phone. They say the speed is supposed to be alot faster, but the functionality is a step behind Cydia developers. Pretty disappointing if you ask me. I think the one big thing I have been waiting for that isn’t on Cydia is the bluetooth stereo.
I tried to pre-order on apples website and it says I am not elibigle for an upgrade. I bought the 3G about a year ago. So i called att and the dude just found about it yesterday and had no information for me. He then transfered me to apple. the lady told me that they dont know whats going on since its not coming out for a month to a month and a half and i said “no, actually apple is pre-ordering them now and guarenteeing shipment by june 19th.” so I guess it’s too early to tell what att is going to do. but how do you put out a new phone annually and not allow customers to buy them? and to the guy who was able to pre-order you must have not bought your last phone legit OR you bought it 2 years ago…
If you read my post I said “im still using the iphone I got the day it came out”. Meaning two years ago. Its not up to apple to to negotiate contracts, that is done by at&t. and if yall are so disappointed with apple, get a blackberry or write Cydia a letter and ask them when there phone is coming out….

Why is everyone whining about the 3GS?! It’s a nice upgrade from the 3G. And all the people with your entitlement issues: why the hell should Apple, ATT or anyone just give you the phone with HUGE discounts?! Because you’re a loyal customer? They made you a better phone. They listened and, even though it took a while, added features that you whined about. Now you want them to just give you the phone for practically free? The whiny “Boohoo, ATT better come through” and “Waaaaah, once again we’re shafted by Steve and the boys” tantrums are hilarious! Talk about entitlement issues!! It’s a phone – they make it, you either buy it or not, it’s that simple!
My only concern at this point is what is the status on the Jailbreak for the new firmware and the road blocks Apple has placed in iTunes to foil our individuality?
K guys this is what happened to me and what i did about it. first i went to the apple store to upgrade and reserve my iPhone 3gs for the 199.00$16gb for the wife and 299.00$ 32gb for me.. well to my surprise the price was not that it was in fact around a thousand for both . I was like WTF I bought one a year ago and was told that i would be eligible for a upgrade with the release of the new one.. So i asked apple and there was nothing I or they could do since it was on AT&T’s end. So I said screw this I’m going to the AT&T store I know people there too. When i got there I wasn’t able to be seen for a few minutes but once i got to the desk and explained my situation to my friend he was more then happy to get them to me for the price of activation..:)
but look if you guys really want a new iPhone 3GS and cant wait and what worked for me wont for you and you don’t mind staying with AT&T for another two years, I’ll let you all in on a little secret. activate a new line on your existing line like a family plan you are allowed up to 8 lines per account you wont be charged for more minutes… Then with your existing line call and tell them your iPhone 3g not 3gs was stolen or lost and ask them to replace the iPhone data plan with just a simple plan with no data that way you don’t get charged for the data on that line and its like not even having two billed phones on your service hope this helps anyone out if so let us all know because this advise was given to me by a AT&T insider on our side
There’s been a lots of people in the UK very angry about not being able to get an early upgrape at a cheaper rate, I don’t care really as there is not that much on the 3gs model to make me won’t to change but with Apple bringing new phones out yearly do you think we will have this anger from iPhone user next year too !
So I know apple was testing push with the devs but it hasn’t been mentioned since the release of the 3G s news..
been waiting for this iphone and i can tell u im not impressed with it. im going 2 give the nokia n97 a go this time.
