In February, the first images depicting the back casing of an unreleased iPhone began circulating around the Internet. The images showed a matte finish to the casing, but looked otherwise identical to the current iPhone enclosure. Recently-posted rumors now suggest that we could indeed see a matte casing for the next generation iPhone.
A new image MacRumors.com obtained is embedded above and shows the same matte case beside the current iPhone 3G, which is housed in a shinier plastic casing. The side-by-side image shows the clear difference between the two finishes. We have no further evidence that this case necessarily represents what the next iPhone will look like, but it does seem to be consistent with circulating rumors.
Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone this summer and may announce details at WWDC in early June.
Man I hope this isn’t true. I can just imagine it being more “slippery” than the current 3G. Only benefit I can see is it won’t show finger prints.
On the contrary, the new iPhone’s cases is on the left, it’ll be less slippery.
I can clearly see that. Which phone is more “slippery” the 2G or 3G? Obviously the 2G was. This matte finish will be of the same texture as the 2G. The “clearcoat” on the 3G has made the phone much easier to hold onto.
I agree with Colt. I work in a classier office environment so we have to wear dress pants a lot and I remember when I had my old iPhone. It used to slide right out of my pocket when I would get up out of my chair. The 3G does not.
The latest iPhone will be grippy, so it shouldn’t slide as easy.
guys you need to also concider, a lot of phones have been coming out in a suede feel or rubberized finish now a days, from the picture thats what that housing looks like, a material soft feel instead of flat or glossy.
The only problem I’d have with a rubbery texture would be that it would be hard to get out of your pocket. I love the finish on the current 3G just don’t like the smudges and fingerprints. I guess we will have to see. I really hope a new iPhone comes out with June/July.
well i can clearly see this is fake it looks to me like an iphone 1st gen with some sort of rubber glove over it
It’ll probably be like the smooth matte finish the incipio feather cases have. Not rubbery like the silicone cases so it won’t get stuck in your pocket but enough grip where it won’t slip out.
