iArrudaG: check out VolumeButtonExtender, it works great. The volume controls works as before, but if you hold the up button it skips the song and if you hold the down button it skips back. You can also press both buttons simultaneously to play/pause.

what about..
keep the volume buttons as they are (to control volume) but, if you hold down one of the volume buttons the song would change

What if you single up and down to skip songs. But when you want to turn the volume, tap and hold for 1 sec and then single taps to adjust the volume. Then it would auto revert back to skip songs. Double tapping both buttons should make it skip to next playlist.

I think they should utilize the home button as a toggle. Maybe hold the home button for a few seconds and have the phone vibrate to let you know that the app or w/e has been toggled. That way, you can choose whether or not you’re trying to adjust the volume or to change songs. Just an idea but maybe someone has a better one.

I guess it depends on what you use more, because the volume controls are just as easy to access as the skip controls. Also, what is the theme used in the graphic above?
