Is Apple’s strategy bad to release the new devices [and OS] during the summer [during the WWDC to be more precise]?
This might be true: according to NPD, BlackBerries out-rank the iPhone.
Here’s the iPhone’s second place:
- BlackBerry Curve
- Apple iPhone
- BlackBerry Storm
- BlackBerry Pearl
- T-Mobile G-1 [good job Google!]
Is BlackBerry a “tougher” competitor due to Apple’s only-device and limited base functionality (i.e. movie recording, MMS, REAL Bluetooth)?
Let’s hope with Apple’s 3.0 release this summer that the iPhone will take its leading position back!

No. You are missing a potent statistic. In fact iPhone is the Best seller of all cell phones. The only reason Blackberry surpassed Apple is because it is sold on ALL carriers. iPhone is exclussive to only AT&T. Thus their market exposure is limited.
Should you take the sales of the iPhone in comparison to only AT&T and then move those numbers across the board? iPhone slaughters the competition.
I have had Blackberry for over seven years prior to getting my iPhone in 2007 and there is no way I would ever go back. The iPhone is by far a better device it is not just a phone, mobile office but something that keeps my daughter quite when on a long car journey. My Blackberrys never did that …ever. Even people in my office are waiting to see “if ” apple will release a new model this year before a few more jump ship from Blackberry, I for one can’t wait for the 3.0 OS I have a feeling that and maybe a new device will push the iPhone back to number one. But I would like to see a few more UK service providers given a chance to included the iPhone in the range of phones as most stock the Blackberry
What is this “News Item” even about?!
“Is it bad strategy to release a new device and OS in the summer”? Ummm… no.
Agreed with Hilty, that Curve has 5, yes 5 different models across all the networks, of course it’s going to sell more.
Can we follow this article up with how apple is failing due to PC’s having more of a market share… Seriously, research people
Hilty makes a fair point but I’m not sure it is valid. If Apple choose to “restrict” the iPhone to certain carriers, then that just contributes to the short comings of the iPhone. So maybe G33kz0r needs to change that list of short comings to: Move Recording, MMS, REAL Bluetooth and CHOICE of Carriers.
I agree with Hilty thats why the iPhone is not in first at the moment, and watch when the new iPhone comes out it will resurge and kill the competition for first place again
Agree with both of you
i’ve owned a BB for a few years and i just purchased an iphone…. to be totally honest I have NO frikkin idea why ANYONE would rate a BB anywhere near better then an iPhone, no frikken idea !!!
