You ever wonder if there is a substitute out there for the sometimes slow, complicated, and space eating Cydia?
Our prayers have been heard with the official introduction of “Icy” by Ripdev. According to “The iPhone Authority” Icy is supposed to be a “lightweight” version of Cydia, and lightweight it is. With slightly more then 1 MB size, the same open source packaging system DPKG, and repositories refresh on demand Icy sounds like a pretty solid upgrade to Cydia.
The software is only in its 1.0v and already promises a multitude of improvements such as faster data processing and a more effective user interface with a little swag of its own. One of the features that Icy is developed around is the use of bandwidth. In order to achieve minimum network traffic congestion the developers put together a straight forward black and white interface accompanied by a set of simple icons.
To add frosting to the cake Icy comes optimized with the so loved landscape mode (might as well follow the upcoming 3.0 firmware).

It’s right on their main page, and the installation is rather easy. You can do it through Cydia itself by adding a new source or through Installer under the system tab.
I installed it as shown in a youtube video. Seem like it worked but nothing show up under categories. ???
I just installed this through cydia and have half of the categories shown here, is there a setting that I missed?
There’s no screen shot preview option, kinda important to have a visual before you install wouldn’t you think?
True that, I figured the shot would give everyone a general idea. If I could somehow jailbreak my 2.2.1 I would gladly take some extra shots, but I updated before doing my homework and now I’m stuck with apple original

i downloaded icy but nothing was in catergories. Why?
I am really not sure about that since I can’t jailbreak my phone and try it. The app is new and in it’s first version, which might explain the lack of certain capabilities.
It took awhile for the categories to load but most of the ones shown in the video still haven’t shown up
RomanC….are you serious about how to jailbreak your phone? I thought people read and post stuffs here are jailbreaker pros. I do hope you are kidding, if not, get your ass moving and unleash the beast. But if you are serious, then YouTube away my friend, tons of tutorials out there.
Truth be told it’s been a time since I youtubed a jailbreak for the 2.2.1 so I think your right bud…I shall youtube this thing again…let u know how it works.
