DFU is a low, pre-boot state in which you need to put your iPhone or iPod Touch in order to jailbreak it for the first time. In the recent 10.5.6 update from Apple, this functionality was disabled to further try to prevent users from jailbreaking their iPhones and iPod Touch’s by displaying an error in iTunes. A fix was involved regarding several files being modded in order to allow this functionality back into iTunes. To install this, download the file below, extract it, and then run the Automator program inside of it. You will need to be logged in as an administrator and provide the password for your user account.

Hi, sorry to sound thick, but do you do this before or after you have updated and installed 10.5.6?
Yes, you do it after.
Thanks, it worked first time
I would be careful with this exploit. I ran the automator script, all fine, and updated the jailbreak on my phone, but not long after, iTunes would no longer see my phone at all. Even reinstall of iTunes didn’t help. I had to re install the 10.5.6 update to fix it. I’ll stick with the usb hub workaround next time. Just my experience!
Anyone know if this works on the new MBP’s (which already didn’t work with 10.5.5)?
Just wanted to say your is in my daily read list on #24, Cheers Ina Bergouignan
