It seems in an effort to keep Installer’s head above water Rip Dev has released a new update and stated that, “we’re bringing it back to speed by providing rapid updates to get it in shape as soon as possible.” Even though Installer seems to be dead and gone due to its complete lack of support and developers it is still striving to be what it once was.
According to Rip Dev’s site these are the new changes/updates:
- Added user-driven ratings. We encourage you to submit your votes for various packages. Once more data will be collected (in a few days), that will be reflected on the Featured page.
- SpringBoard is no longer terminated after the software was installed or removed.
- Proxies are (again) supported. The support was broken after we moved to libcurl.
- Introduced download timeouts (again) that were disabled after the move to libcurl.
- Reworked many parts of the engine in an effort to get rid of the occasional GUI stalls.
- If a particular source fails to update, it will be moved to “disabled” state for 6 hours and will not be included in the all sources refresh process. The disabled state is listed as the source icon with a red “stop” sign over it. This is done to prevent unnecessary stalls at the sources refresh if one of the sources goes offline for whatever reason. If you’d like to retry it before 12 hour interval, open its info and hit Refresh button there.
- Removed customInfo support as it was mostly used for unnecessary ads that were disturbing many people. These pages are normally reachable from the “More Info” link.
- Much better error reporting. Forget these “error 3″s and such. The descriptions are much more human readable now. And for script errors, it will show an actual script command that caused an error.
- Installer will prevent iPhone/iPod touch from sleeping when it’s downloading or installing something.
- The app icon badge should behave better now.
- Lots of smaller fixes and optimizations I won’t list.

I will never use installer again. I havent used it in awhile and when i went in there i saw that this update was available. well I had to restore because it locked up my phone. i never had any issues with cydia and i have been using it for awhile. Installer sucks.
The update locked up my phone too. After like 30 minutes of the spinning cog I rebooted it and then it stayed on the apple boot screen for about an hour. I was about to restore but I didn’t want to lose all my Cydia apps so I hooked it up to my computer and opened iTunes. It recognized my phone after a couple minutes and I pressed sync. Finally my phone came out of the death screen and back alive. I don’t know why I updated Installer, I never use it. When I pwn 2.2 I am finally going to uncheck it and get it off my phone for good.
well its about time…lol thanks for the update and take care Nazaroth .
Locked my phone aswell!!Dam installer!!! it has been on the boot screen all night. it keeps vibrating turning off and going back to the pineapple, won’t go past that. Can not seem to catch it to do a restore. AAARRRHHHH!!!!!! i have it hooked to my computer but it is just not helping. Just thought the update would have been good, silly….I hid installer so i would not use it, read about the update, updadted and now i’m stuffed…………..:( Don’t know how I’m going to stop it!!!!! any ideas will not go astray!!!!!
Locked mine as well. I was an Installer fan and always talked down Cydia before. Now that is reversed. Cydia is rock solid and Installer will NEVER again be installed on any iPhone my family has. We have three now and a fourth, for my daughter, soon.
I would say the general consensus is to not update… it is sad that they release something that buggy…
Got it to restore!!!!
now i have lost everything, contacts, birthdays even aptbackup didn’t work to restore my Cydia apps
Have a lot of work ahead…….Did not add Installer when i re_jailbroke. Have to think of every thing i had and find it again….hope the aptbackup works again for the upgrade next week…….Not Happy with installer, I gave it a big chance have been using it, got some good apps…But hid it to stop me cause it kept crashing my phone…….
Go Cydia!!!!
thanks
